New Release - CJ Washburn, PI

Smilodon

Deserving of Death
One might say that CJ Washburn is obsessed with Stella Summers. After all, common sense all but takes flight when she goes missing for a time. How could he not think to check his email or voice mail or not find the note she had left in his apartment? He runs to the scene of a body dump in fear that it is her, possibly the third victim in what appears to be turning into a serial killing rampage.

"And this guy calls himself a private investigator?"

A private investigator he is, and a good one at that. However, women's bodies keep turning up and by the fourth victim he becomes a person of interest; by the fifth, the prime suspect and the subject of a manhunt from the Idaho panhandle to Southern Arizona. Bodies continue to drop around him until his deepest fear is pushed upon him and his investigative skills are challenged at the highest level. In a message from the killer he learns that the next victim will be one of the women in his life; his daughter, his girlfriend, his attorney or even his ex-wife. Who is the next target of this deranged killer?

"This book is multi-layered, smoothly written and tucked into the heart of the action is a great love story." Alliji "God's Girl"

"Deserving of Death is a wild ride of suspense and heart pounding action. I loved this book and highly recommend to everyone who loves a great mystery and crime story." REgina

"...a compelling story concerning cops, ex-cops and serial killers. The story is well done and will make it difficult to put down at 2:30 AM, which is what I had to contend with! Paddock's writing style keeps you involved with each character, as they fight the seemingly unfightable." D. Beltran

"A thoroughly enjoyable read--well paced with plenty of tension and excitement. The writing is invisible--meaning that it gets out of the way and allows the reader to submerge themselves in the tale. I'm very much looking forward to reading the rest of the series." Mary O.

"This was a very gripping book... it's intensity and suspense picked up speed like a freight train and did not stop until the very last page. James Paddock has a knack for wrapping the reader in a spider web of intrigue and suspense that will leave you with tingling feet and the hair on your neck standing on end. I highly recommenc this book a MUST READ!!" superman_all_the_time.

"...webs of intrigue within boxes of puzzles, and it only got better from there." Bittermac

"This is a good story, well written, by a writer who knows his stuff. I highly recommend this for lovers of SciFi, and Paranormal Fiction. And anyone else who just loves a good read." louise3anne

   The Time-Travel Series

Before Anne After

Before Anne After (Book 1) Read Sample Chapter
Through a series of small errors and oversights – a missed phone message, an unlocked high-security door, a lax in protocol, a falling purse – eight-month pregnant Annabelle Waring unknowingly stumbles into her husband’s time-travel experiment. She awakens in a 1943 Charleston Navy Shipyard barracks with no memory of the event. Her existence and her sanity become questionable; if not for her newborn baby and a Charleston, South Carolina police officer, she would certainly have checked herself into the funny farm. Her doctor, alias German spy, learns before she does that she is not only a time-traveler, but a highly educated woman in the field of nuclear science and World War II history. When she finally discovers her own secret, Anne must strive to get both her and her infant daughter home, even at the risk to her own life. See even more synopsis here.

Time Will Tell Time Will Tell (Book 2)
Annie seldom thought about her age, certainly never talked about that summer in 1943 when her mother birthed her, about the fact that her mother died that same year, or that it might have been in 1987–there was no way of knowing for sure–or about the fact that after 64 years she had yet to observe her 20th birthday. Already a Iraq War widow, Annie Caschetta must escape the oppressiveness around her and all the memories of her husband. With the semester over at MIT and the dreaded summer looming upon her, she chooses to escape to a cabin near Glacier National Park where she can sort through her thoughts and memories. However, it is her final, regrettable words during her last few moments with her husband that follow her and continue to haunt her. It is those words which she knows must be fixed, must be unsaid, if she is ever to have a real life again. If only she had a wormhole.

"The time travel is written so well. I didn't feel like I was reading a sci-fi book. If you have ever wished you could take back harsh words, this will make you think." Alliji "God's Girl"

"I beieve Mr. Paddock must be a genius to be able to think of all of the possibilities his characters must consider before traveling back into time." REgina

"...the science is fascinating...the characters are well rounded and poignant, the writing is excellent and the plot is unpredictable. How exciting to find a book that actually lives up to its promise." Julia Robb

Smilodon Lost & Forgotten
Imagine waking one day with a new face and no memory, an opportunity to pick a new name and start a new life; a clean slate. Orphaned as children, separated for 22 years, Melissa is intent on finding her identical twin, Marissa; however Marissa is now Mariah and not who she used to be. Melissa’s search brings her to Los Angeles, crossing paths with Tyron, the only person aware of the truth, a person with immoral intent. As Melissa searches for her twin and Mariah searches for who she was, they are both faced with first time romances. Their brief crossing of paths and wisps of twin psychic connections provides one hope, and the other confusion. Tyron hatches a plan to bring them together, for a price that includes more than just their money. Lost & Forgotten is story of wealth and poverty for far from pretty identical twin sisters as one meets evil in her search for her other half, and the other struggles to start a new life and find out who she was.

"James Paddock is a master storyteller. Lost & Forgotten is filled to the brim with color, action and mystery. Things have a way of turning on a dime so it's not possible to guess what is going to happen next." REgina

"Truly enjoyed the book. A great insight into the power of the mind. This book has all the elements of a great read." Ida

Smilodon Hot Roast Beef with Mustard
It’s a day like any other, except for the money, and the hot roast beef with mustard, chocolate shake and hot apple pie at Charlie’s. Naomi Wilcox’s life is in limbo before that Saturday when she finds herself driving too fast on a two lane blacktop in Nevada, a bag stuffed with bundles of hundred dollar bills by her side, a new life ahead. And then there appears a truck, a bull and a slow talking Cowboy. And still she runs until there is nowhere to go except to Charlie’s where the Cowboy teaches her more than she would have ever imagined, that she has the power to make her own choices.

"When you open a James Paddock novel you know you are going to be reading a well written book with great characters. Naomi has been mired in clycles of depression since the death of her parents. When she "accidently" aquires a large sum of money she flees her job and hits the road. Driving through the desert she berates herself for being so foolish and then the phone rings. A mysterious voice begins to have conversations with her and asks that she meet him at a diner. She would recognize him because he would be the cowboy with a black hat sitting in the back corner. Hot Roast Beef With Mustard is not only a good read it makes you question everything you thought you knew about Deja Vu." Alliji "God's girl"
